Heat treatment services

Pre-heat

When controlled temperature of weld preparation is required, pre-heat can be applied and maintained for as long as required during welding or repair work.

Post weld heat treatment (PWHT)

Some construction codes and standards require welds to undergo PWHT otherwise called stress relieving.

At Sentinel, we have the means to carry out PWHT on small diameter butt welds up to large pressure vessels, we can also carry out unique PWHT jobs specified by the client by working closely with them to come up with technical procedures and methodology.

PWHT methods at Sentinel:

Below are some of the commonly used methods we utilise.

Low voltage:

  • Ceramic mats used for both contact PWHT of welds or can be utilised in a small temporary furnace.

High voltage:

  • Ceramic flexi mats for contact PWHT of large diameter circumferential or longitudinal welds.
  • ‘4 banks’ used for larger temporary furnaces.

Gas fired:

  • Refractory dry outs on vessels.
  • Internal firing of vessels with exterior insulation
  • Large size furnace PWHT of vessels or multiple specimens.

Small vessel externally insulated and gas-fired internally using a single gas burner unit. Carried out at Sentinel workshop.
